“I love yoga because of its holistic nature. Yoga stretches, strengthens, and balances the body and it focuses the mind. I love the artistic aspects of yoga, the dance-like nature of yoga, expressing the flowing graceful motion of the human body. I love the poetry in the sanskrit names for the poses, in that they roll off the tongue and are rhythmic and rhyming, suggesting sound poetry or rap singing.
I love that yoga highlights the philosophic and spiritual aspects of life, connecting us to the flora and fauna around us, for example, Cat Pose, Sunbird, Tree, and Lotus Poses.
Finally, yoga is timeless and cross-cultural, surviving hundreds of years and spanning many continents; wherever there are human beings, yoga practice engenders physical and mental well-being.”
This book is Joyce’s homage to yoga. Joyce Borenstein is honoured to collaborate with Malcolm McLean, her yoga teacher.
